It can be difficult understanding how to heal from trauma when some of your questioning, shame and confusion are tied to your ideals around religion, ethics or spirituality.
You might have beliefs that are challenged or that you begin to question. This questioning is normal and you can explore this with many confidential resources on campus including:
Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CCPS)
Office of Religious, Spiritual, and Ethical Life (ORSEL)
RSVP Center staff |
You might be accustomed to finding support with a religious or spiritual community you are regularly involved with. It is possible to find therapist who is familiar with your religion, spirituality, or ethics. Your safety and well-being is important and relationship and sexual violence can be very difficult to navigate without a trained mental health provider, or a trained member of the clergy.
Every survivor deserves support on their healing journey. Finding support outside your religious or spiritual community does not mean you are leaving your community, it simply means you are getting support in ways that feel the most helpful to you.
The RSVP Center recognizes the complexities at the intersection of RSV and religion, spirituality and ethics. Leaving, changing, and remaining in your community are personal choices, and there is no right answer for everyone.
